Success from the start
June 2005
More staff are needed at Goodwins Timber Frame as the first homes roll off the production line and demand is starting to grow.
 |
Within weeks of opening for business, orders and enquiries are starting to pour in to Goodwins, the UK’s newest timber frame manufacturer. General Manager, John Goodacre, is pleased to report strong demand for Goodwins homes coming from a wide range of building sectors. "In addition to supplying quotes for the usual two and three storey housing projects we have seen a surprisingly large number of requests for blocks of flats. Enquiries are coming in from across the country and we are currently being asked to look at constructing a prestige apartment block in London, as well as other similar projects in Cornwall, Yorkshire, Bristol and Newport." |
To further strengthen the team at their new 80,000 ft 2 factory, the company has appointed Peter Powis as Technical Manager and is still looking for more CAD design engineers as well as structural engineers and support staff.
First Projects
Among the first projects to be undertaken by Goodwins was a small high quality housing development in Swansea, and a pair of individual detached houses in Ross-on-Wye. Other projects completed within the first few weeks of business include a 1600 sq ft single story, flat roof school extension and a 6 bedroom executive house both in Wales.
The school extension provided a new set of new classrooms which had to be built during term time, so it was vitally important to minimise disruption to the pupils and staff. Thanks to Goodwins Timber Frame the work of erecting the frame on site took just two days. Using typical block and brick construction, this part of the work would have taken at least two weeks.
Response from building contractors is also very encouraging, says Sales Manager, Carl Williams. Stephen Tabernacle, director of building contractors Tendean Ltd who built the homes at Ross on Wye, was very impressed with Goodwins’ quality and quick response. “Goodwins were able to offer a short lead-in time. The frames were delivered and erected just two weeks after the bases were laid, which meant no time was wasted. Because Goodwins supply large size frames, there was no need to assemble wall panels on site - something which can lead to inaccuracies. We also liked Goodwins’ ready-made floor cassettes, as they also helped save installation time.” Tendean have already invited Goodwins to quote for future projects.
