Timber Frame design chosen for apartment construction

Goodwins Timber Frame has recently been selected by Holm Oak Developments for its Brewery Court apartments in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.  Timber frame was considered to be the obvious solution for the thirty-one apartment development.

Property developers Holm Oak Developments had a very specific design brief for this project, due to the site being in a conservation area.  Holm Oak sought to create a development that complemented its surroundings, and wanted the façade of the apartments to be in harmony with the local architecture.  Another important consideration was to minimise the environmental impact by making the development energy efficient.

Timber frame construction is rising in popularity and was selected by Holm Oak because of its sustainability and the scope it offers in terms of design.  With regard to energy efficiency, timber frame constructions can achieve very high levels of insulation more easily than other building methods.

On selecting Goodwins Timber Frame, David Nicholas managing director of Holm Oak comments, “Goodwins was involved at the design stage of the development and so we were confident that the frames would be easily put together on site. The former garage site proved at first difficult to build on.  Goodwins were very proactive in assisting with the design brief and offered a precisely engineered solution.”

The property developer is delighted with the results.  “As this development is situated in a conservation area, the construction had to blend in with the existing buildings and have the appearance of individual houses”, adds David Nicholas, “With the help of Goodwins we are confident that the development has captured the true character of this historic market town.”
